I love this quote from Pu.La.Deshpande – “उपजिविकेसाठीआवश्यक असणाऱ्या विषयाचं शिक्षण जरुर घ्या. पोटापाण्याचा उद्योग जिद्दीनं करा, पण एवढ्यावरच थांबू नका. साहित्य, चित्र, संगीत, नाट्य, शिल्प, खेळ ह्यांतल्या एखाद्या तरी कलेशी मैत्री जमवा. पोटापाण्याचा उद्योग तुम्हाला जगवील, पण कलेशी जमलेली मैत्री तुम्ही का जगायचं हे सांगून जाईल”, roughly translated to “Get educated in any field necessary for earning your livelihood. Do work hard & with dedication for your livelihood but do not stop there. Take an interest in Literature, Art, Music or Sports. Your work will let you earn for your living, but one of these interests will let you enjoy life. “

Stamp Collection, is something that has been passed down through generations in my family. My grandfather started this collection in 1965. Since then, my grandfather (Mahadeo Chhatre), my father (Mohan Chhatre), my aunt (Vijaya Joshi) & my uncle (Mukunda Chhatre) have been collecting stamps. I call them, fondly, “The Elders”. No wonder, I was quickly drawn to this hobby. After a few years, the Elders, lost touch with it & I stumbled upon an amazing collection that they had made.

It was my turn to take it up. I started taking interest in stamps when I was 11 or  12 years old & loved going through the Elders collection. I remember subscribing to the “Indian Post” mint stamp subscription list. I still do.  Every month you get a set of stamps from the local Post office with an information booklet regarding that stamp. The topics are varied & you can spend hours reading up on the stamps that you receive.  This subscription now allows me to add stamps to the collection.

The collection is quite big & I needed to think of a way to document it. Luckily, I develop custom applications & web-based softwares (to earn my livelihood). This knowledge definitely came in handy & I started work on designing a small website for this collection. The framework of the site was developed almost a year back, but lost most of my work because of a hard-disk crash. I started working on this website last week & I am proud to announce the launch of the first version of the Stamps website. Do check it out here: Stamps.MihirChhatre.com

The site is still very raw & I know it requires a lot more work & can have quite a few features added to it. I request you to explore the website & would appreciate your feedback on this website.

The plan is to add approximately 15-20 stamps a day to the website & once it has a sizable sum, add A Stamp A Day.

Thanks!
